    In the Balance (2024),

    Oil on canvas, 92cm x 71cm.

    I made this painting after the results to the 2024 US Presidential Election were announced. Like 'Hope', it was a departure from the majority of my recent work, which is concerned with the changing colours of the seasons. In this painting I balanced the Democratic blues with various shades of Republican reds. Whilst making it I was very much thinking about how the result of the election would impact on the structure of the US democracy over the next four years.
